Starting from just two pilot buses in Nairobi in early 2022, BasiGo’s fleet now serves over 20,000 daily passengers and has created more than 1,000 jobs related to assembly, maintenance, charging, and operations. The company’s electric buses have collectively avoided over 1 million liters of diesel and reduced CO₂ emissions by more than 2,000 tonnes, demonstrating the environmental and economic benefits of electric mobility in the region.
BasiGo’s progress exemplifies the rapid growth potential of Africa’s electric mobility sector, which has evolved from early pilots to commercialization by focusing on robust, locally adapted products and viable business models.
