Despite BYD’s impressive 160% year-on-year growth, it was insufficient to offset the overall decline. Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) accounted for 6.9% of the Australian market in July, with 7,129 BEVs sold out of a total 104,244 vehicles. When combined with plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), the market penetration reached about 10.5%, consistent with the average monthly rate for the year. However, sales data remain incomplete due to some manufacturers, such as Xpeng, not publicly releasing figures despite visible presence on the roads.
