Read original articleQPT has launched MicroDyno, a low-voltage motor drive test platform designed to showcase the benefits of ultra-high frequency gallium nitride (GaN)-based motor drives for collaborative robots (cobots) and general robotics. Operating at an unprecedented 1 MHz switching frequency—about 100 times higher than typical PWM drives—MicroDyno integrates a compact filter that delivers a true sine wave voltage directly to motors. This innovation significantly reduces electromagnetic interference (EMI), bearing currents, and system complexity while eliminating the need for costly external sensors or encoders. The platform’s high signal-to-noise ratio enables advanced real-time torque ripple and cogging correction through QPT’s qSense technology, enhancing motor precision and smoothness critical for delicate robotic tasks.
MicroDyno’s high-frequency operation allows for smaller, cheaper filters and fully integrated motor drives within robotic joints, reducing system size, weight, and cost. The platform supports sensorless diagnostics for vibration and torque monitoring, facilitating predictive maintenance without
