Read original articleUS startup OpenMind is developing software tools to enable humanoid robots to collaborate seamlessly across different manufacturers and environments. Their AI-native operating system, OM1, is hardware-agnostic and integrates perception, foundation models, memory, and contextual awareness to allow robots to interpret surroundings, understand natural language, and make real-time decisions. Complementing OM1 is FABRIC, a decentralized protocol that lets robots securely identify themselves, verify locations, and share data with unfamiliar machines, enabling real-time teamwork in open, multi-robot settings. This approach aims to overcome current limitations where robots operate in isolated, single-vendor ecosystems.
Founded in 2024, OpenMind recently raised $20 million led by Pantera Capital to accelerate development and deployment of OM1 and FABRIC. The company plans to deploy an initial fleet of ten OM1-powered robotic dogs by September for real-world testing in homes and other environments, gathering user feedback to iterate rapidly. OpenMind envisions its software stack as a universal "nerv
