In the second quarter of 2025, U.S. electric vehicle (EV) sales declined by 6% year-over-year, dropping by 20,511 units compared to Q2 2024. This downturn was primarily driven by a significant decrease in Tesla sales, while non-Tesla EV sales remained relatively flat, increasing by only 218 units over the same period. Despite this recent decline, overall EV sales in the U.S. have grown substantially over the past few years, with Q2 2025 sales still 60% higher than in Q2 2022 and 163% higher than in Q2 2021.
